Nothing Compares 2 U is a beautiful track and probably one of the greatest songs of all time.

It’s an odd idea it could be Sinéad O’Connor’s biggest song but at the same time such a Prince song. I remember being surprised when I first learned that it was a cover but when you actually think about it, it’s so Prince. The 2 U in the title is the most obvious clue.

The song fits in to the Prince catalogue of ballads but his own versions just don’t hit right. It’s a credit to Sinéad or her team that they heard it and saw what they could do with it. The lyrics are simple and the meaning is clear. Her voice is powerful and fragile at the same time. Sinéad O’Connor takes a filler Prince track and turns it into one of the best songs ever.

Sinéad O’Connor is a national treasure. She’s got a lot of shit over the years but she’s super brave. I think she’s probably a self destructive person and has made some questionable statements over the years but she’s been totally on point more than once about very serious issues.
